3 Best Pet Stores
While we all know the big box pet stores around the area, the South Sound boasts some amazing local pet stores that provide quality food and products for our favorite little furry family members. What I love most is that these stores are so knowledgeable – you can be sure to get your questions answered and walk out with the highest quality products for your dog or cat.
I’ve rounded up what I believe are the 3 best pet stores in the South Sound area…but let me know if there are others! I’d love to check them out.
Tacoma, Gig Harbor, Olympia, Lacey (and more)
Mud Bay, named after Mud Bay Road in Olympia, offers healthy food, treats, toys, and other goods. Mud Bay started in 1988, out of a little farm store, and used to rent out a local bagel bakery to bake healthy pet cookies after hours. By the late ‘90s, Mud Bay had become a cornerstone in natural pet food.
I love that whenever I go into Mud Bay, I get such expert help from everyone who works there. They are clearly passionate about what they do to help us treat our 4-legged friends to the finest in pet food, treats, and toys. I’ve don’t remember a time when I’ve left Mud Bay without a few sample treats or food in hand to test out on my pets.
I have learned a lot about what to feed my animals based on some very helpful advice from employees at the shop, whether it is raw food, high-quality kibble, or wet food as well.
Olympia (and more)
Starting out of Longview, The Pet Works was a locally owned pet since the 1970s. Over 30 years later, the business expanded into Astoria and not long ago, opened a shop in downtown Olympia. The Pet Works boasts healthy pet products, including for fish and bird supplies.
The location is super convenient too – so you don’t have to travel to the West Side or head into Lacey. This is definitely my go-to shop when I am running short of cat food (and maybe I sneak in a few toys as well).
Tacoma
This little shop has everything a dog could need. A great place to spoil your pup, this has toys, treats, and other fun goodies (who doesn’t need another doggy bandana). The staff is knowledgeable and it’s fun to see the dogs (and owners) strolling the store, to check out all the smells.
This store is definitely a keeper on this list and is super popular with locals in the Tacoma area.
